Arbaz Khazi

Second-year student building cloud infrastructure that actually deploys.

About Me

I'm in my second year of a Computer Science degree, focused on Cloud Computing and DevOps. I realized early that writing code is only half the battle — getting it to run reliably in the real world is where the magic happens.

My approach is hands-on: I don't just read about Infrastructure-as-Code or containerization — I build small systems, break them on purpose, and fix them. I'm currently preparing for the GCP Associate Cloud Engineer certification, and this site deploys itself through a CI/CD pipeline.

Cloud & Infrastructure

In development

A real GCP deployment with Terraform is in the works.

Automation & CI/CD

This site's own CI/CD — a portfolio that deploys itself

Deployed

My first real pipeline, live in production: every push to main triggers a GitHub Actions workflow that builds this Astro site and publishes it to GitHub Pages. The portfolio is its own working GitOps demo — anyone can inspect the workflow and watch it run.

What I did: Wrote the deploy workflow end-to-end: build → upload artifact → deploy. Wired Pages permissions and Actions, and handled the base path so assets resolve correctly under /portfolio/.

Impact: Deploys this site on every push — 3+ successful runs so far

Future: Extend from build → deploy to build → test → deploy on a real app with Terraform; add preview deployments and artifact caching.

Exploratory Builds

MessMate — Hostel Mess Management

Deployed

Django web app that reduces hostel food waste by letting students mark single-meal absences and multi-day leave — so staff cook for the actual number of students present. USN-based login, DB-level duplicate protection, and a staff notifications inbox with seen-flags.

What I did: Designed the full data model and USN-based auth, built the student request + staff dashboard flows, and enforced duplicate-meal validation at both the form and database layers.

Future: Containerize with Docker + docker-compose, wire a CI/CD pipeline (GitHub Actions → Render), add meal-wastage analytics and email/SMS reminders, and migrate to PostgreSQL for scale.

What Is n8n? Notes From Exploring an Automation Platform

I kept running into n8n while learning automation and self-hosting, so I dug in. Here's what it actually is — workflows, nodes, fair-code, a one-line Docker deploy — and why it's on my radar as a cloud student.

Why My Portfolio Deploys Itself (GitOps)

Every push to this repo rebuilds and republishes the site automatically. Here's how the pipeline works, and why I think it's the most on-brand thing a cloud student can ship.
